The vast majority of products offered today under the Attar name contain synthetic fragrances and solvents from petrochemicals (di-octyl phthalate, liquid paraffin, etc.). These components are inexpensive compared to natural extracts, in addition, the manufacture is simplified and faster.
However, the aromatic qualities and properties of these imitations are not comparable to authentic Attars: the fragrances are not as deep and rich in nuances, the virtues of the plants are absent or not very present. In addition, the synthetic components used can be toxic (various substances used in perfumery are known to be carcinogenic and neurotoxic).
The particular development of authentic Attars is also very different from the natural perfumes that can be found on the market, and the manufacture of which consists of adding a few drops of essential oils or perfume extract to a base of alcohol, vegetable oil or wax.
